Assets are assets owned by an individual, company, agency, or government that are intended to make cash. Examples of assets include cash or the equivalent of cash, inventory, investment, vehicles, furniture, patents (intangible assets), stocks, property, and equipment.

An asset has three key things as follows:

Ownership, which is anything that represents ownership that can be converted into cash and which is equivalent to cash
Economic value, that is the value of assets that can be traded
Resources, which can be used to bring economic benefits in the future

Important company assets need to be recorded information in the inventory sheet. Each asset can be broadly categorized as:

assets that are easily converted or not
tangible or intangible assets
assets used for certain operations or purposes

Seeing whether or not an asset is easily converted, assets are further divided into current assets and fixed assets. Examples of current assets are cash, stock, and short-term deposits. Meanwhile, examples of fixed assets such as land, buildings, machine tools, equipment, patents, and trademarks.

When viewed from its shape, assets are divided into tangible and intangible. Tangible assets such as land, buildings, cash, stock, and equipment. While intangible assets such as patents, brands, copyrights, trademarks, and intellectual property.

Assets classified according to their use or purpose are classified as operational assets or non-operational assets. Operational assets are used to generate revenue from the company’s core business activities, such as cash, inventory, machinery and equipment. While non-operational assets are not needed for daily business operations but can still generate income, such as vacant land, securities, and investments.
